Illegal Migrants in Delhi Schools: MCD Orders Identification and Verification

The MCD has instructed schools in Delhi to identify illegal Bangladeshi migrant students and restrict issuing birth certificates. The move follows a directive from the Delhi L-G Secretariat to crack down on illegal immigrants, sparking political debate ahead of elections.

Delhi Schools Receive Directive to Identify Illegal Bangladeshi Migrant Students

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has issued a directive instructing schools to identify illegal Bangladeshi migrant children. Schools have been asked to ensure that such students are not issued birth certificates and to conduct identification and verification drives.

This order comes shortly after the Delhi L-G Secretariat initiated a crackdown on illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, making it a contentious issue between the ruling AAP and BJP as elections approach.

Action Plan and Deadlines

The MCD has also directed its zones to remove encroachments by illegal Bangladeshi migrants and submit an action taken report by December 31.

“The education department will take preventive measures to identify illegal Bangladeshi migrants while admitting students in municipal schools,” the MCD deputy commissioner stated.

Political Reactions Spark Debate

The directive has triggered sharp criticism from AAP leaders. AAP MP Sanjay Singh accused the BJP of using the order to humiliate and target the Purvanchali community, equating them with “Rohingya infiltrators” and “Bangladeshis.”

“They want to insult and threaten the poor from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar,” Singh remarked, alleging that the move is aimed at evicting Purvanchalis from their homes and businesses in Delhi.

Context and Broader Implications

This directive is part of a broader political conflict between AAP and BJP, with both parties trying to influence the migrant and working-class vote base. The ongoing debate also highlights the complexities of balancing immigration policies and community welfare.
