Hindu Sena Chief Urges ASI to Survey Delhi’s Jama Masjid Alleging Hidden Hindu Idols

New Delhi: Hindu Sena’s national president, Vishnu Gupta, has submitted a formal request to the Director General of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to conduct a comprehensive survey of Delhi’s historic Jama Masjid. Gupta’s letter alleges that idols of Hindu deities are buried within the mosque’s structure.

In his letter, Gupta further claimed that the Jama Masjid was constructed using the remains of temples allegedly demolished in Jodhpur and Udaipur under the reign of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. He stated that the remains, including the idols, were purportedly embedded in the mosque’s stairs as a deliberate affront to Hindus.

Officials of Jama Masjid declined to comment on the matter when approached.

Gupta’s letter urged the ASI to investigate the mosque structure thoroughly. He asserted that numerous remains of temples and idols are buried beneath the mosque’s stairs, which he claims has impacted his religious sentiments and his right to worship.

“Your office is requested to survey Jama Masjid, Delhi so that the idols of our deities can be preserved and concrete steps can be taken to install them in the temple and the truth about Aurangzeb can be revealed to the world,” the letter stated.

When contacted, ASI spokesperson Nandini Bhattacharya Sahu mentioned that the organisation had no prior knowledge of this specific correspondence.

This development comes amidst ongoing discussions around the preservation of cultural heritage and historical narratives in India. It remains to be seen whether ASI will take any action in response to the Hindu Sena’s request.
